The actor started off the series of tweets with “Get ready for some Hot Sauce,” warning fans of what was to come.

Some of the more printable tweets included, “raise your hand if you f***ed the devil” and “I just wanted to get the mailman to fart.”

Many of his 4.4 million Twitter followers wondered if the 77-year-old had been hacked and if that was the reason for the string of bizarre tweets.

A little less than two hours later DeVito gave somewhat of an explanation for his Twitter stream that evening.

It turns out he had been live tweeting during the East Coast premiere of his new FXX show, Little Demon.

“[Sic] Everyone on the a west coast wondering if I’m insane. Watch Little Demon at 10 PM tonight on FXX or tomorrow on Hulu . All your questions will be answered,” he wrote.

Once his fans realized what was going on they tweeted their enjoyment at the comic spectacle.

“I was very concerned until I realized you were live tweeting the show,” wrote one fan.

Another commented: “I am begging you to do this every week, King. This was an absolute, out of context, blast.”

And a third added: “Thank you! I wondered if you needed medical assistance. My favorite was the one about making the mailman fart. (Giggled again typing it.)”

Newsweek has reached out to DeVito about the reaction to his tweets.

DeVito stars with his daughter Lucy in Little Demon as Satan and the Antichrist respectively.

The acting duo found it entertaining to portray “extreme versions” of themselves on screen, with the family patriarch especially enjoying how much of a family affair the animated series is with his son Jake producing and wife Rhea Perlman also taking on a guest role.

The show follows 13-year-old Chrissy (Lucy DeVito) who discovers she is the daughter of Satan (Danny DeVito), which makes her the Antichrist.

Her villain father is keen for her to inherit his realm, but not if her demon-fighting mother Laura (Aubrey Plaza) has anything to say about it.

“Being these characters, the Antichrist and Satan, or just these very extreme versions of ourselves, I think it’s been really fun and really exciting,” Lucy DeVito told Newsweek.

Her father went on: “That’s one of the really big things. We always like hanging out and we love being together.”

“When Lucy actually came to pitch me the idea she had [with] these friends, […] I loved it right from the very beginning. First of all, to play an intricate character [like Satan], second of all because he’s got lots of roadblocks and dilemmas. The devil you wouldn’t think [would have] this duality. He’s somebody who’s seen a certain way on the outside but inside there’s so many levels,” said DeVito.

The actor also shared that he was “proud and happy” of the work his son Jake put into the show, saying he was “really on it in every moment” as executive producer for the series.

Little Demon airs Thursdays, 10 p.m. ET/PT on FXX and streams the next day on Hulu.
