Console gamers became increasingly worried when it was revealed that Battlefield 3 will run at 30 FPS and 720p, where the game’s rival title in the genre, Modern Warfare 3, is believed to not drop below 60 FPS.
According to DICE’s VP and General Manager, Karl Magnus Troedsson, the frame-rate won’t be an issue on the console.
Troedsson also explains the reasoning behind the framerate decision, citing technical benefits for the variety of in-game elements:
Overall, the explanation encourages that the lower numbers don’t necessarily reflect low quality gameplay on the console version. In fact, Troedsson explains that the technical build will enable a better experience across the variety of features included in the game.
When asked about his hopes on the success of Battlefield 3, Troedsson’s biggest goal with the game is simply “that the people who play the game tell us that they enjoy it.”
Battlefield 3 is scheduled for an October 25th release for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The game’s direct competitor, Modern Warfare 3, is releasing a mere two weeks later on November 8th.
