“We should not be a megalomaniac and should not be persuaded that suddenly everything has to be done differently and better. Bundesliga stadiums have a capacity of 91% and we have the second highest turnover of all football leagues in Europe,” Seifert said.
The DFL is one of the most financially stable league in the world, with the 2013 Bundesliga Report in January showing that the 1.Bundesliga generated €2.08 billion compared to the €1.94 billion it generated last year. The league posted a post-tax profit of €55 million and 14 of its 18 member clubs earned profits.
Maintaining that there is no need for a title sponsor, Seifert reiterated: “To pick a name for title sponsorship to me would be too much. To change the name of the Bundesliga to generate €20 to €30 million more, in view of the total revenue of €2.5 billion does not make sense plain and simple.”
