Cowboys wideout Dez Bryant gave away his pet capuchin monkey, Dallas Bryant, he told Dallas radio station KTCK 1310 The Ticket.

“He was one of us, the monkey was one of us,” Bryant said (via the Dallas Morning News). “He got pure-A1 treatment.”

Bryant said he still gets to see Dallas, though — he gave him to a friend.

Dallas came into Bryant’s life last season and invoked a swift reaction from PETA, which said: “Monkeys belong in the wild — not in the hands of football players who acquire exotic animals just to make a splash on Instagram.”

Well there you go, PETA. Bryant no longer has an adorable companion who runs to the door when he comes home. We’ll miss you, Dallas.
