With it being such a long gap between titles, Capcom has released a “smokin’ sexy short” story recap video that quickly sums up the events of the previous games. This way, long-time fans can be reminded of all the major players that will be appearing in the game and newer fans, who may not have the time to play the previous entries, can get a basic understanding of what’s coming in Devil May Cry 5 and how certain characters know each other.
Due to it only being a couple of minutes long, certain details are completely skipped over such as the origins of Trish and Lady (probably since they won’t be the main focus of the game’s story) and Dante and Nero’s relationship as uncle and nephew is only hinted at, but there are a couple of interesting details in how the recap is presented.
First of all, Dante’s twin brother Vergil gets quite a bit of recognition despite dying in the first game. It’s possible he was only mentioned due to being one of the most popular characters in the series and the link between Dante and Nero, but some fans have speculated that Vergil will return in Devil May Cry 5. With so many other beloved faces returning, having Vergil make a comeback would make sense and could potentially/hopefully lead to him becoming a playable character once more, if fans let Capcom know.
Secondly, the events of Devil May Cry 2 are completely omitted. It was believed for a while that Devil May Cry 5 was set after 2 but this story recap suggests that that’s not the case. Either that or Capcom is ignoring that game entirely, making it no longer canon. That seems unlikely but considering the second game has become infamous within the community for its lackluster gameplay and boring interpretation of Dante, it wouldn’t be entirely unsurprising to see Capcom try and sweep it under the rug.
For any fans that are intrigued by the new game and want to give it a shot before buying it, a new demo for both PS4 and Xbox One was released a few weeks ago.
Devil May Cry 5 will release for PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 8.
