This feature just so happens to be local co-op, allowing a second player to jump into the Bloody Palace mode as Dante’s iconic brother Vergil. Here, both players can slay their way through the game’s crushingly difficult tournament mode, adding a whole new layer of enjoyment to an already beloved part of the game.

This new feature is highlighted briefly in the title’s recent launch trailer, with Dante and Vergil both being shown in action fighting waves of demonic enemies. The small amount of footage depicts both Vergil and Dante attacking two separate enemies on opposite sides of the map as well as teaming up on a single foe. Evidently the game’s signature hack and slash combat system has been made to work with two players in mind, with both characters seemingly able to perform combos when far away and close to each other.
The idea of multiplayer might not seem like a traditional one when considering the hack and slash genre, but it’s clearly something Capcom has been considering more and more when it comes to Devil May Cry. Devil May Cry 5 featured a considerable amount of multiplayer elements, allowing random online players to each take the role of one of the game’s three protagonists during certain levels. Devil May Cry 3’s co-op mode clearly expands on this idea well, and could be a strong multiplayer element if featured more prominently in future games.
Regardless, it’s great to see Devil May Cry 3 coming to Switch consoles and providing Nintendo fans with yet another superb classic game to add to their library. It seems every week the console ports a beloved icon from the past to its portable screen, with the likes of Doom 64 and Final Fantasy 12 being some of the more notable recent additions. Hopefully, Switch fans will see even more Devil May Cry come to the console in the near future.
