Bungie has declared that the main goal that it hopes the changes will accomplish is the reduction in the amount of time players spend waiting to find matches. Regarding the matter, Destiny’s Senior Designer Derek Carroll shared details on the studio’s official Website on all of what the developer hopes to achieve with the alterations and how they have the potential to affect fans’ gameplay.
As far as a specific time for the Destiny test is concerned, Bungie declared that it will take place sometime “this afternoon,” meaning that as of writing, it should occur within the next couple of hours if it hasn’t already been made available. Furthermore, the studio also failed to share if or when these changes will be permanently implemented should the matchmaking test go on to be a success.
One of the most recent changes Bungie brought to Destiny was its decision to give the Hunter class a heavy nerf, which led to a lot of players that relied on the specific Guardian type to become a bit peeved with the developer, claiming that such persistent tinkering causes fans to become reluctant to boot up the game, as there’s always a possibility of favorite features being altered or taken away. However, much like the studio is attempting to do with the aforementioned changes to matchmaking, such refinements are required with a game like Destiny, as constant evolution is necessary to provide its multiplayer community with a more dynamic and balanced experience.
Considering the changes to Destiny’s Crucible matchmaking, some fans are speculating that Bungie is setting them into motion so as to expand the search parameters due to the shrinking player base that typically comes to fruition once a game begins showing its age. While it’s certainly conjecture at this point, the argument hold some weight, for after all, the title’s release date was in September of 2014. Should that be the case, though, hopefully Destiny will be able to rejuvenate the title with new life once more, and bring new and old fans back into the fold with its forthcoming Rise of Iron expansion.
Destiny is out now and is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One, with its Rise of Iron DLC set to release on September 20, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
