Destiny 2 developer Bungie has heard fans’ feedback on the issue and says that it will be putting in safeguards against duplicate drops of exotics. Bungie said in its weekly blog that the intention of exotics in Year 2 is for them to be rarer, resulting in “long-term chases”. While that’s being accomplished with the scaled-back drop rate, even Bungie admits that “getting your fourth Fighting Lion when all you really want is a Two-Tailed Fox” is no fun.
So, in a future update, Bungie plans to “increase the chance for exotics to drop something [players] don’t already have.” There are plenty of new and powerful exotics in the game’s loot pool, but the majority of players haven’t earned them. And with Xur not set to offer new exotics until later, there are very few chances for players to fill their collection with these powerful weapons and armor.
This change looks to be very positive for Destiny fans, preserving that impactful feeling of getting an exotic to drop, while also helping to ensure that a seldom-seen drop is actually something new. Bungie also detailed its plans to address another major complaint of Forsaken, making Masterwork Cores easier to acquire.
Bungie did not provide a timeframe as to when this update will hit the game.
Destiny 2: Forsaken is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
