However, many fans will likely be happy that these changes look to bring faster gameplay and more powerful abilities to Destiny 2, something that has been sorely lacking due to the game’s higher focus on balance in comparison to Destiny 1. Destiny 2 has been criticized for not having “hero moments” and taking away the power fantasy that existed in Destiny 1, but hopefully, these changes should give some more power back to players.

First off, movement speed will be turned up across the board, allowing every player to be faster out of the gate and even faster depending on the Mobility stat. Arcstrider, Sentinel, and Striker subclasses will move faster (the same speed as one another) within their Super. Arcstrider is also getting singled out, speeding up attack and dodge animations as well as increasing the range of its Super attacks. The sandbox update will also completely roll back the change to Shoulder Charge, which had its lunge nerfed to take the focus away from mobility and put it on dealing damage.

Weapons are also getting deadlier, which could affect time to kill (or at the very least bring more archetypes in line with the game’s fastest killers), as Bungie says a number of weapon archetypes are getting buffed including hand cannons, pulse rifles, sniper rifles, and shotguns.

Also, on the Crucible settings side, the pace of play should be quicker thanks to a faster respawn time in all Quickplay modes and quicker spawn rates for Power Ammo in virtually every game type. Another welcome change, which was a big hit in the limited-time Mayhem playlist, Power Ammo will now drop from a player who has it upon their death and can be picked up by other players.

All in all, these changes look positive, and if all things go right, could give players more opportunities to feel powerful and have fun in the Crucible. Again, it will still be a bit of a wait, with these changes scheduled to go live March 27, 2018.

Destiny 2 and the Curse of Osiris expansion are available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
