This GM is not as challenging as most others because players can skip a few encounters and still get maximum rewards for completion - namely, Taken Blights near the beginning of the Strike. The final boss of Lake of Shadows has always been considered the easiest in the game because it could be melted using swords, a Well of Radiance, and a Ward of Dawn to increase damage and provide survivability to the team. And yet, Destiny 2’s easiest boss got a lot stronger with the 30th Anniversary Pack, as Bungie increased its health by a good chunk.

A Reddit user by the name of thegamethrowacc shared a strategy regarding the newly buffed boss when having a run at the Lake of Shadows GM Nightfall, and that is to use Destiny 2’s version of Gjallarhorn. While Gjallarhorn was proven to be less than optimal in terms of boss DPS, having a dedicated player using it provides a team-wide buff to non-Exotic rocket launchers, effectively increasing the damage output with perks like Lasting Impression or Clown Cartridge. As such, with the proper team, players can easily melt the Lake of Shadows boss even on GM difficulty.

The strategy proposed by thegamethrowacc consists of placing a Well of Radiance and having a Void Hunter use Tether on the boss for more damage, as well as Revenant Hunter to use Silence and Squall. While this was a very effective combo when using Focusing Lens, Well of Radiance no longer synergizes with other bonuses as of the 30th Anniversary Pack, which means that going the Void Titan route with Ward of Dawn is probably more efficient.

Recently, a Destiny 2 player shared an effective DPS build for Hunters in PvE, which makes clever use of Elemental Well mods, Stasis Fragments, and Reed’s Regret. Even though this loadout might not be best suited for Lake of Shadows, it does come in handy for other high-end PvE scenarios.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
