For those who don’t know, the launch of Destiny 2: Beyond Light will see four major destinations (Mercury, Mars, Titan, Io) get removed from the game for an indefinite amount of time. This has urged players to make the most out of and immortalize their favorite locations.

Wanting to still have access to their favorite location after it gets stowed into the Destiny Content Vault, Reddit user Quantum086 rebuilt the entire Braytech Futurescape zone. This is the part of Hellas Basin on Mars that ranges from the curving train track to the Core Terminus Lost Sector.
They used the Valve Hammer Editor to reforge the zone into a map. This is the official mapping tool for use with the Source engine and it comes bundled with pretty much any Valve game.
The project took them 200 hours over the course of a month to complete. They say that the Hammer Editor isn’t the ideal mapmaking tool and that it caused many glitches and crashes along the way.
It was necessary to trim down the map a bit to get it working, which means this hand-made version of Mars won’t have the same fidelity as the one in-game. Regardless, those who have Garry’s Mod can try the map out by heading to the Steam Workshop and searching for “TTT_Braytech”.
The author wished to create the entirety of Hellas Basin including subsections like Alton Dynamo and Mindlab: Rasputin but the editor tool would not allow it because of the brush count limit. Brushes are 3D pieces of geometry within the Hammer Editor and going over the limit causes instability.
Also, the creator would like everyone to know that this was handmade and will not be a 1-to-1 replica of Mars from Destiny 2. This is due to the lack of measurement tools in Destiny 2 and the variations in things like player heights between it and Garry’s Mod.
Despite being tailored for Trouble in Terrorist Town, the map can still be used in sandbox mode. Quantum would’ve loved to do the more lush destinations but their environments are too intricate to be replicated effectively. They may attempt the more simplistic and block-y areas such as the realms of the Nine or the Tower.
Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
