Not too long before the release of Destiny 2’s PC beta, Blizzard decided to inform fans of this specific decision by Bungie by posting an announcement for PC players confirming that the platform will indeed restrict players to one region. Considering the fact that other PC games from Blizzard like the team-based shooter Overwatch came with the same settings as well, many Destiny 2 fans likely anticipated such an outcome.

The announcement from Blizzard went on to explain that even though Guardians select a preferred region to play in upon starting up the game, it doesn’t necessarily mean that one will be locked to that particular region forever. Should there be a reason for fans to switch to play with friends from a different region, by visiting the Destiny 2 page in the Blizzard desktop application, players can re-select their preferred region from a drop-down menu.

Taking all of this into account, it will be interesting to see how Destiny 2’s PC community reacts to these region restrictions, but it’s safe to presume that most feathers will remain unruffled, as this has been the standard operating procedure for a lot of games launching with Blizzard’s Battle.net. And with the PC beta’s early access now live, it’s likely that the majority of Guardians are simply ecstatic just to be able to play the series on the platform for the first time.

Destiny 2 is set to release on September 6, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and it will launch on October 24, 2017 on PC.
